Design and History

Poul Henningsen designed the PH 5 in response to the ever-changing shapes and sizes of incandescent bulbs. He aimed for a versatile fixture compatible with any light source. The name "PH 5" reflects both Henningsen's initials and the 50-centimeter diameter of the main shade. Originally, the PH 5 featured red and blue shades to enhance color rendering. However, with advancements in light sources, these are no longer necessary. The design has been continuously updated to accommodate modern lighting technology.

Four plus Five

This interior project in Poland was designed by combining two separate apartments to recreate the original layout of the building. In the former studio, a living room with a dining room was created. The project emphasizes the combination of simple forms with lots of color and natural materials, making the PH5 pendant lamp a perfect addition. In the newly created living and dining room, a PH5 pendant serves as the focal point above the dining table. Its multi-shade system provides ample, glare-free light for dining while also adding a touch of Scandinavian elegance.

Restaurant La Maruca de López de Hoyos

In the city of Madrid, La Maruca's new restaurant in the heart of the capital pays tribute to Santander's architectural gems. The PH5 pendant lamp is a perfect fit for the nautical-themed restaurant. With the restaurant's focus on spaciousness and natural light, the lamp's ability to evenly distribute light without causing glare is valuable. Installing multiple PH5 pendants over the dining area provides glare-free illumination. Additionally, the lamp's white finish would complement the project's predominantly light color palette. Moreover, the PH5's durability and resistance to humidity make it an ideal choice for a coastal setting, ensuring it remains a stylish and functional lighting solution for years to come.
